A pioneer of his generation, Miguel Milá was born in Spain in 1931, beginning his design career in the 1950s, while his country’s industry was in crisis. Growing up in a time where handmade things were not only the norm but a necessity, Milá was quick to showcase the benefits of hand production and raw and renewable materials in his lighting and furniture designs.
His work now recognised as the epitome of Catalan design, Milá transformed the high values of rigour and honesty of his youth in all of his pieces, which are renowned to this day. Lauded with esteemed rewards such as the Mexican Premio Nacional de Diseño and the Italian Compasso d’Oro, these are testaments to his enhancement and promotion of Catalan design.
The Conran Shop’s edit of Milá designs comprises floor, table and wall lamps in collaboration with established industrial lighting luminaries Santa & Cole. The Cestita, Cesta, TMC, ASA and Wally collections boast sculptural tubular bases, smooth translucent cylindrical glass diffusers and sophisticated wooden finishes, offering options for both indoor and outdoor use.
